BYD has recently completed an undisclosed amount of investment in the automotive division of drone maker DJI,Singapore Archives as the Chinese electric vehicle giant has lagged behind rivals Tesla and Huawei in providing robust assisted driving capabilities to vehicle owners. Zhuoyu Technology, a Shenzhen-based auto tech firm controlled by DJI, has made a wholly-owned subsidiary of BYD one of its shareholders, with the latter holding a 3.95% stake in the company’s registered capital totalling RMB 73.1 million ($10.1 million), according to information on the enterprise database site Tianyancha. BYD had expressed interest in investing in DJI’s automotive business unit early this year, as part of its plan to roll out assisted driving functions in 2025 for future models costing RMB 200,000 or below, with assistance from the tech unicorn, TechNode reported. Multiple upcoming BYD models will come with a camera-enhanced rear-view mirror system as optional, boosting driving functions such as lane changing, according to the vehicle registration information released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Monday.
